FAQs

You Ask - I Answer

How do I know if I need therapy?

I often say if you're asking the question, then perhaps there's a way in which you could benefit from talking to a therapist! Research suggests that therapy can help many people with a myriad of different concerns. It is normal to be nervous about trying therapy for the first time, and the only way to know if it is helpful for you is to try it!

What can I expect at the first session?

The first session is typically considered an assessment session in which I get to know you, your life circumstances, and why you're seeking therapy. We work together during that first session to understand how I might help you in your journey.

What if I don't know what to talk about?

That would be a pretty normal circumstance! I find that clients often report that they're not sure what to talk about, and that's quite alright. I'll help you to think of topics that might be useful to talk through.

How long does each therapy session take?

The typical length of each session is approximately 50 minutes. I also provide phone coaching via text or phone call outside of our regularly scheduled sessions.

Do you offer a telehealth option?

Yes, I can offer a telehealth option. We can discuss whether in-person or virtual therapy is the right option for you.

Do you prescribe medication?

No! My licensure is as a clinical psychologist, which means that I work using talk therapy. I am happy to collaborate with your psychiatrist or any other prescribing medical provider you have.
